Networking, information and support for oncology social workers...

HopeWell is pleased to be recognized as an important gathering place for oncology social workers in the greater Baltimore area. Each quarter, social workers are invited to HopeWell to a share information and ideas, to discuss psychosocial issues and best practices, and to encourage each other in their commitment to provide services for cancer patients and their families.

We invite any social worker who currently works with oncology patients and their families to attend our quarterly meetings. Many times social workers are able to receive 1 Category II CEU for their participation.

February 23 Meeting: Overcoming Transportation Barriers: Helping Patients Get To Treatment
Presented and Facilitated by Jen Broaddus, Social Worker, St. Agnes Cancer Center

Jen has been working with an ad hoc community committee focusing on transportation problems for oncology patients. This morning she will give an overview of the purpose and status of the ad hoc committee, the barriers to treatment caused by lack of transportation in our community and the current resources based on a recent survey. This will also be a time to get input from our group and do some brain storming and problem solving together.

Our Mission is to create a community for all people with cancer, their families and friends, that encourages an exchange of information, the development of a support system and the presence of hope.
