Oncology Social Worker Meetings

Networking, information and support for oncology social workers...

HopeWell is pleased to be recognized as an important gathering place for oncology social workers in the greater Baltimore area. Each quarter, social workers are invited to HopeWell to a share information and ideas, to discuss psychosocial issues and best practices, and to encourage each other in their commitment to provide services for cancer patients and their families.

We invite any social worker who currently works with oncology patients and their families to attend our quarterly meetings. Many times social workers are able to receive 1 Category II CEU for their participation.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction: As Essential for You as for Your Patients and Families

Presented by Gina Sager, MD, RYT

Mindfulness meditation, breath work and yoga are critical skills for managing life's challenges. These practices enable participants to see the value and preciousness of the present moment, open to the possibility of transforming crisis into opportunity, and minimize the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual tolls of ordinary and extraordinary stresses.

Through presentation and experiential exercises, Dr. Gina Sager, a long time and well known meditation and yoga practitioner and retired board certified general surgeon, will focus on ways to minimize the effects of working in high stress medical environments.  She will also address the benefits of mindfulness based stress reduction for patients and families living with cancer.  Dr. Sager’s work is based on the curriculum of Jon Kabat-Zinn and his group at University of Massachusetts Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare and Society, with whom Gina has done training.

Whether you are familiar with MBSR or just getting introduced to it, you will be sure to gain worthwhile information and experience.
